Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Physical Activity on the Dimensions of Achievement Motivation of Male and Female Students

Abstract

Background and aim: Individuals with regular physical activity are the most energetic and healthy people in any society that can increase their progress, success and stability in society. The aim of this study was to Evaluation of the effectiveness of physical activity on the dimensions of achievement motivation of male and female students.

Methods: The statistical population of this study was all students of Jahrom University.
Seventy-six sport science students (29 girls, 47 boys) were randomly selected as active group and 76 other students (47 boys, 29 girls) were selected as inactive group. In order to measure the Progressive Motivation, Hermann's Progressive Motivation Questionnaire (1970) was used. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and independent t-test were used to analyze the data.

Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between active and inactive female students in persistence scales (p = 0.013) and barley competition (p = 0.003). It was also found that there was a significant difference between the active and passive male students in the barley competition scale (p = 0.038). There is a significant difference between active and inactive students in self-esteem scores (p = 0.05), perseverance (p = 0.017) and competition (p = 0.002). 

Conclusion: Students with physical activity are more likely to be motivated than non-active students, and in addition to physical health, they can improve their motivation skills to make progress in life and education.
